Outremer 49 PRICE REDUCED

Price Reduced by $50,000! I just received a call from the owner of this Outremer 49. He is planning to take his cat back to the west coast (CA) and would prefer to sell it here on the east coast before securing plans (and deposit) for shipping it over. Which means, he is VERY MOTIVATED to sell.

This 2011 Outremer 49 owner's version catamaran is located in Fort Lauderdale, FL and is in mint condition! This is a unique opportunity for owners looking to purchase this offshore proven multihull without the 9 month wait of a new boat and associated costs of a delivery in France. This boat is available right now on the US East Coast (DUTY PAID) and is ready to sail around the world.

STRAY CAT is beautiful and impeccably maintained and equipped with the Offshore Pack along with some very expensive high tech upgrades:

Carbon mast with Kevlar shrouds
Halyard and reef lines in Dyneema
Harken electric winches
Incidences Hydranet Mainsail & Self Tacking Jib
Incidences Code 0

Mastervolt Lithium Phosphate batteries, 740 AH
Extra alternators, Mastervolt 130A (2)
U.S. and European Shore Power

B&G H3000 system with Pilot and Gyro compass
NKE ultrasonic speed sensor
KVH mini-VSAT Broadband Internet/phone
Ericsson W35 cell router Internet & phone
Raymarine E120W Plotters (2) & Digital Radar
Raymarine AIS 500 Transceiver

12V Front opening freezer
Espar hydronic heater plumbed to hot water tank
Electro-Scan black water treatment (2)
Plastimo Liferaft
Rocna 33kg + Fortress 9.5kg anchors
2012 Honda 9.5HP four stroke outboard

This special yacht is suitable for fun day sailing (think guy bonding or entertaining clients) or extended offshore navigation (picture traveling world ports with the family or just the two of you) - no catamaran can do both as effectively as an Outremer. ;)

Best yet is that she is docked with Outremer's US service center: JUST CATAMARANS, so any personalization of the yacht can easily be done by their qualified technicians. Visit the online listing, visit the boat and see for yourself how great this boat really is...

Used Catamarans for Sale Found Offline As Well

Used, pre-owned, pre-loved, whatever the spin, these catamarans, especially in the owner versions, remain high in demand and low in inventory. Despite the surge in demand, relatively few are advertised for sale. Not to say they aren't being sold. A fair amount of catamaran transactions are done in-house, with brokers presenting catamarans to their loyal buyers from previous/current clients, now catamaran owners.

Developing a relationship with your broker is key to obtaining access to this market of boat owners who may or may not have been thinking about selling - until the opportunity presented itself. Every successful person knows when to reach out to others for help. The savings may come in the form of time, money and even experience of the purchase and use of your vessel. Do your due diligence but don't be afraid to make a connection.

Presently there are a few catamarans available for sale as "pocket listings", meaning if the right offer came along the owner would sell. Contact a few brokers, make a connection and see if your dream catamaran is more achievable that you once thought.

Here I leave you with a video of the popular Leopard 43, of which you may find hard to find for sale online. ;)

Outremer 5X to Display at Annapolis Boat Show 2013

The rumors are true!!!! The Outremer 5X will make her official US debut at this year's Annapolis Boat Show! I just booked my tickets, this yacht is a must see for me. If it is for you, then you better get going! It is hard enough to get a glimpse of an Outremer catamaran here in the states, harder even to see Outremer's flagship luxury world cruiser sitting on a dock waiting for you to board. Book your tickets. I'll see you there! If you can't make it and need video or have questions, call me. 786-879-0700. =) More info here:justcatamarans.net/news

Power Catamaran Comeback

Power Catamarans have been a hot topic lately, with many of my clients attracted to the trawler type cats as a transition from sailing but reluctant still to give up life on the water. To date, there have not been many made as very few manufacturers took on the task: Manta, Lagoon, Privilege, Fountaine Pajot, Leopard and PDQ had some success. Lagoon, having a strong financial force had the ability to create a new market backed with supporting research. However, their research led them to a different course - developing the hybrid diesel-electric systems for the sailing market. In 2007 Lagoon ceased the production of their Lagoon power catamarans to make way for the demand they anticipated with the new technology. As fate would have it, the market crashed in 2008 and virtually all motor yachts were on standstill for sale or were given away (for cheap).

Now, here we are in mid 2013 and the consumer market as a whole has been on a steady climb. So, naturally, some of the manufacturers are ready to talk power again. This time they're going BIG. Lagoon is developing their 62ft powercat (based on the current Lagoon 620 sailing catamaran) and Leopard is coming in with the 51 (based on their 48). These big cats should make a splash, particularly among those whose plans include vacationing on the water (maybe a little less so for the Great Loop crowd). In my experience, sailors and power boaters have a very different mentality, especially considering speed! Try it ... ask a sailor what he considers fast then ask a typical boater. The results won't surprise you. Speed has been one of the main issues for the power minded. The Leopard 51PC is said to come with two Standard 150hp John Deer 4 cyl - with an option to upgrade to 370hp Yanmar 8 cyl. Lagoon's will come with Volvo D4 260HP or Volvo 300HP engines and will debut in April 2014. Let's see if they can match the speed of a similarly priced yacht. If so, you might be seeing more catamarans with or without masts floating about!! If so, call me. I will bring drinks!

Manta Catamarans Planning a Comeback

After the company ceased production following the former and beloved owner's death in 2008, the company never picked itself back up, despite having a hard core following and being one of the very few US builders of catamarans. Now, Manta Catamarans are in the early stages of re-opening production of the Manta Power and Sail Cats under the new ownership of Charlotte Harbor Sails in Florida. While the new owners are still gathering data for their business plan, they state they hope to begin cleaning and prepping the molds in mid-July and aim to be ready for production in August. Manta's first boat will be the Manta 44 (tentatively called the Mark V) Power Cat with plans to be ready for display at the Miami Boat show. If they are met with enthusiasm by the public, they will continue with their plans to begin production of the Manta 42 Sail Cat shortly thereafter. In addition to reviving the models we have come to know, plans for a new line are in the works for sometime in late 2014-2015. Calling all Manta Owners for their input! (image pictured above is of Manta 44 Powercat PANGEA in 2011 when she was out for yearly bottom paint.)

    Outremer Catamaran Update

An update from Outremer after the show at La Grande Motte - Among several future new Outremer sailors, were also those who were looking to buy used. During the show Outremer 49 "Amaris" has gone under contract. Sold during this time was Outremer 45 "Anada" and Outremer 45 "Fuli". Our Outremer 45 "Aldora" was sold here in Fort Lauderdale during this time as well. And, Outremer 55 "Gargalou" and Outremer 38/43 "Thales" are pending sales.

Not to worry, still available is Outremer 49 hull#1 and also "Papa Millas". We've also just listed most possibly the nicest kept Outremer 49. (While the others are in France and adequately equipped, this one is equipped "to the nines" and spared no expense with carbon rig, tiller steering, and owner layout. I say she is possibly the nicest kept Outremer 49 because I know the owner and he is meticulous and restricts access to his boat to only a few people.) 2001 Outremer 50 has also entered the market at 309.000 euros - full refit in 07/09.

The new Outremer 51 continues to bring about enthusiasm and those who attended the show were invited to the Outremer boat yard in La Grande Motte to take a peek at the extended Outremer 49, commencing at hull#25. Next delivery for a new Outremer 51 is slated for November 2013.

The new 59' super awesome Outremer 5X has now a March 2014 delivery as the December slot has been taken.

2009 Lagoon 440 Catamaran for Sale Alert

A 2009 Lagoon 440 owners version has been taken in on trade and will be set to hit the market at an aggressive asking price for a quick sale to get her off the books. 110v, nicely equipped. Contact Just Catamarans if you think this might be your future boat. Timing is everything!

    Catamaran Overboard

Yes, you read it right! And there is a news station reporting it...So it must be true!

Unfortunately, we must always remember to trust but verify. Upon digging the scoop further I found a video of the "38ft catamaran" in question. It is indeed a Corsair Sprint 750 MKII (which if you know multihulls, you know this is trimaran). But, this clip/news article serves to remind us 2 very important lessons:
1 - As noted above, trust but verify. Make sure to check your news sources before jumping to conclusions.
2 - The second party on board did not know how to sail when the power shut off and the captain accidentally fell overboard. I'm glad they were not far from shore where they were able to receive a tow back. But, even coastal, it is good to have a MOB plan and basic knowledge of the boat you are aboard. video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

    Solo Sailor's Documentary Debut

Ok, so this sailor is on a "half cat". But - she's young and will surely see the appeal of cruising on a catamaran's stable platform in the future! Either way 14-yr old Laura Dekker's story captured worldwide media attention when she announced her attempt to become the youngest sailor to solo circumnavigate. Interestingly enough, her experience will be shared on film with the world in a documentary titled "Maiden Trip", premiering on Sunday, March 10th at the Austin Fest. Her addiction to the sea is something we can all relate to...

The young captain of the Guppy shot all footage at sea while documenter Jillian Schlesinger engages the audience and checks in with Laura at her various port stops.

    Here's the SXSW program notes:

14-year-old Laura Dekker sets out—camera in hand—on a two-year voyage in pursuit of her dream to be the youngest person ever to sail around the world alone. In the wake of a year-long battle with Dutch authorities that sparked a global storm of media scrutiny, Laura now finds herself far from land, family and unwanted attention, exploring the world in search of freedom, adventure, and distant dreams of her early youth at sea. Jillian Schlesinger’s debut feature amplifies Laura’s brave, defiant voice through a mix of Laura's own video and voice recordings at sea and intimate vérité footage from locations including the Galapagos Islands, French Polynesia, Australia, and South Africa.

    Outremer 51 Design Changes

The award winning Outremer 49 will remain available if desired but why wouldn't you want the new and improved Outremer 51?! The mould of the 49 is being modified to become the Outremer 51 by extending the transoms 2ft. The extended transoms bring more performance, more comfort, more buoyancy, and more storage - as most clients have chosen the hydrogenerator Watt and Sea option, this is where they will house a dedicated locker for this popular option. In addition to the above, she looks to be sleeker with the elongated hulls!

Additional changes include modification of the portholes as well as the side windows on the roof, mirroring the flagship Outremer 5X, which just won the European Yacht of the Year for 2013. The bimini has been changed to a light but rigid version and the interior has been improved as well! Her galley now holds more storage and has been formed to a (baby) u-shape, offering more functionality. Last but not least, interior designer Franck Darnet has redesigned the saloon and squared it off to accommodate more people in more comfort and redesigned a new chart table based on his experience with the Outremer 5X.

Co-owner of Outremer Yachting Xavier Desmaret has said, "The Outremer 49 is a great boat. The Outremer 51 will be legendary!" I like that kind of enthusiasm!! Sign me up!

Next available slot for a new Outremer 51 is Summer of this year (2013). Following slots will be November and December 2013.

Unusual Catamaran Salvaged off Australian Beach

    How WEIRD is THIS?!

Stranded catamaran washes ashore at Middle Park Beach

A LARGE catamaran has washed ashore on a popular Melbourne beach after battling rough seas.

The 18m (59ft) stranded vessel was beached at Middle Park Beach near Beaconsfield Parade before 2pm on Saturday. Police said the boat had been anchored offshore but rough conditions had pushed it on to the beach despite attempts to steer it away from shallow water. Water police tried to pull the stricken vessel back into the water but were unsuccessful. The owners have now had to call in a salvage team.

The boat has attracted attention from hundreds of surprised locals and visitors who have been hitting the beach over the Australia Day weekend.

Reported by the Alex White of Herald Sun. Picture by Chris Scott.

Outremer 5X Wins European Boat of the Year 2013

The 59' Outremer 5X performance cruiser received the European Boat of the Year award in her category for 2013! Winners were announced last weekend during the Dusseldorf boat show. This award follows the win of this very award last year for the Outremer 49. Obviously this manufacturer puts great thought into their designs. While the Outremer 5X will not be attending the Miami Boat Show Feb 14th-18th, the Outremer 49 will be there, represented by Just Catamarans and the Outremer Yachting team from France. It will be a real treat to meet the Outremer team. Congratulations to a much deserved award!
